fourth Sunday of Eastertide

Disgusting

Rev. Sarah Van Zetten Bruins will be preaching at Trinity on May15.
Disgusting
“Even if I was hungry, I would not drink a bowl of my favorite soup if it had been stirred by a used but thoroughly washed flyswatter.” This is a question from the Disgust Scale, a tool developed by Jonathan Hidt and other researchers.
As human beings, we often have a visceral, gut reaction to situations, to things, even to people. But what if sharing God’s expansive love calls us into the heart of that which disgusts us?

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Critical Conversation with Kurt Reppart
After worship on May 22, we are invited to an hour of conversation about policing reform with Kurt Reppart, a friend and First Ward Commissioner. Kurt will share about ongoing efforts to improve policing in Grand Rapids and invite suggestions and questions from us. Childcare will be available in Trinity’s Youth Room.
Potluck Picnic & Blessing of the Bikes
To celebrate the end of the programming year, we are invited to gather at Richmond Park for a potluck picnic at 11:30 am on Sunday, June 12. Bring your own tableware and food to share. We reserved  the shelter house; so, there will be cover if it rains.
Earlier at worship, we will resume our traditional Blessing of the Bikes. Every bicycle rider is invited to bring their bike (or a symbol of their bike such as a helmet) into the sanctuary. We’ll pray a blessing over the people and gear as we enjoy another season of riding. Bike riders are invited to cycle to the Richmond Park Potluck Picnic in a bicycle caravan.
May 15 Youth Group
Trinity’s youth group will meet in the Trinity parking lot at 2:30 pm before driving over for a guided hike at Aquinas College (thanks Pete Tabberer for guiding us). At stops along the hike there will be tasks to challenge the coordination and intellect of adventurous hikers. We’ll wrap up with a snack around 4 pm.

General Synod Devotionals
The 2022 annual gathering of the Reformed Church in America, called General Synod, will begin on June 9 in Pella, Iowa. Both Pastor Sarah and Trinity elder Jan Koopman will be serving as delegates this year.
You are invited to support this gathering in with prayer. You can sign up to receive reflections each day, for the 30 days leading up to General Synod here.  Hard copies of the devotions can also be made available–just ask Pastor Sarah.
Drinks on the Deck
Drinks on the Deck  is back! This is a time for the women of Trinity to connect & socialize outdoors (or inside, depending on weather). All you need to bring is your beverage of choice.  This month it will be on May 23, 6:30pm, at Susan Olthof’s yard, located at: 2401 Cedar Crest Lane NE GR, MI 49525. Check with Pastor Sarah for questions.
