First Sunday of Lent

Full to the Brim: Even in the Desert

Rev. Benjamin Van Zetten Bruins will be preaching at Trinity on March 6.
Full to the Brim: Even in the Desert” | We often take on Lenten disciplines in order to prepare for Easter, but are we actually able to get ready for grace? Aren’t our lives, even in Lent, actually a response to God’s grace? We begin our Lenten worship series, “Full to the Brim” with the promise that God’s grace always precedes our efforts. We seek transformation and growth not to make ourselves worthy but out of gratitude for the grace we have already been given and could never earn. Our cups are already full to the brim!

House Meeting

Trinity is part of a coalition of institutions that have launched a broad based organizing group in Grand Rapids/West Michigan. As part of that work, we have House Meetings in which people are invited to share stories about the pressures they are feeling in their households or for loved ones.

House meetings seek to understand what’s happening in people’s communities, build relationships, identify leaders, engage people in conversations about things they care about, and identify issues for collective action.

You are invited to participate in a House Meeting this Sunday in the Fellowship Hall after worship. This opportunity is primarily for people who haven’t participated in a House Meeting yet, but all are welcome to attend, even if you have been part of a House Meeting recently.

Second Hour Series on Bathing | starts on March 13
Is bathing a luxury or a necessity? In many ways, it’s both.
Craig Hanson is adapting a course he teaches on bathing for a three-week Second Hour series at Trinity.
We’ll explore how bathing moves between extremes: from idealized glamour to ordinary bodies that need cleaning, from ritual purity to carnal delights, and from birth to death.
We’ll ask questions about privilege and access to clean water.
We’ll consider the meaning of scenes such as the mass baptism in O, Brother Where Art Thou?
Come on in, the water is fine!
.
Broad-Based Organizing | West Michigan Community Organizing’s Delegate Meeting has been rescheduled to March 8 at 7 pm. You are invited to attend with Trinity folks. At the meeting we will choose a name for our coalition, practice a house meeting, meet other folks engaged in organizing, and continue to build momentum toward making substantive changes in our community. Register with this link.
