Fourth Sunday of Epiphany

The More Excellent Way

Rev. Benjamin Van Zetten Bruins will be preaching at Trinity on January 30.
The house churches in Corinth asked Paul for some help in overcoming the pressures they were experiencing. Part of Paul’s response is a beautiful poem about love. It is the “more excellent way.” | 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Sermon Discussion

Morning Prayer

(Epiphany 4)

God, you have given me the gift of another day;
may I live it in gratitude.
Help me to be loving to others,
to the Earth, and to myself;
in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Evening Prayer

(Epiphany 4)

Holy One, this day is drawing to an end. Be with me as I pause and ponder all the love I saw and received today.
Help me to see you in each moment of love.
Where I fell short of being patient and kind, help me to feel your patience and kindness toward me,
and give me peace, as I give this day back to you. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

House Meeting Campaign Begins | The core team leading Trinity’s engagement with West Michigan broad-based organizing is starting to invite people to House Meetings. House Meetings are small group gatherings that build relationships, identify leaders, and provide an opportunity for people to engage in conversations about things we value—they are about sharing the stories of our lives.
The core team will be making first round invitations in the coming weeks. If you are invited, please say “yes”! We are all invited to participate in a House Meeting at 2nd Hour on February 6.
The core team trusts that House Meetings will stir our imagination as an institution and individual leaders. They will help us discern, along with the other institutions in our broad-based movement, the issues about which we will take action.

Youth Group | Trinity’s youth group meets at 2:30 pm this Sunday at the Klemp’s (3547 Bayberry Dr NW). Everyone 4th grade through high school is invited. Bring snow gear and, if you want, a friction reducing mobile platform (aka a sled). We’ll wrap up around 4 pm. Questions? Reach out to benjamin@trinityreformedchurch.org

Trinity Meets 2021 Year End Budget | Please see the December/Year-End Giving Report below. We are so grateful for this generous and faithful community. Thanks to all those who supported meeting our 2021 budget!

Consistory Nominations | Everyone at Trinity, regardless of membership status, is invited to nominate people for the April 10 election of elders and deacons. Nominations can be made using the online form or the paper form found at the back of the sanctuary. All nominations must be received by Sunday, February 13. Whom will God call through this body?

Year End Giving Statements | You will find your personal/household year-end giving statements on your Breeze account, anytime you’d like to reference them. Please email the office if you’d like yours sent directly to your email. Many blessings and thanks to all those who give so faithfully and generously to maintaining the work of Trinity.
